Overview
The svelte Pharaoh hound is a tall, slender, athletic hound. Is an all round pet and working dog. Indoors this dog is quite elegant animal that is renowned for its ease of getting on with people and other dogs. Being loyal, loving, good with children and other dogs. Not so good with other smaller pets though as this breed likes to chase. Once outside they are very feisty and active and are easily trained for hunting and working duties.Care and health
This is a robust hunting and working dog but its not an outdoor dog these days, they need warmth and comfort and are happiest close to their owner. They require lots of exercise daily so regular trips to the park are needed, they won't fare well in an apartment so access to a secure garden with a high fence is essential. Coat maintenance is minimal so brushing once a month would be enough and bathe only needed.History
This breed derived from Egypt and came to Europe by Phoenician traders via Greece and north Africa, they initially were hunting dogs for rabbits for farmers protecting crops, but they were only used to locate rabbits and the rabbit holes. This breed really established itself on the island of Malta before it started to take fashion anywhere else in the world for many years, it only started to become popular in the UK and USA in the 1980's.Usefull data
